Well, Carmax was successful in shaking me down for this $81 diagnostic fee.

Total Charge: $356.85

That includes the $81 dollar "Loyalty/Extortion" fee to "Diagnose" my car:
(Broken down as $56.70 to hook the machine up to the car, and $24.30 to turn the light off after they are done.)

TaTa said she would be unable to "Consumerise" this charge, which I can only assume means they don't want ME as a CONSUMER there. I guess *I* am the boob in this situation.

After 4/2009 I will no longer solicit Carmax, and I certainly will not encourage others to do so either. Which is a shame since I purchased my last TWO cars there.

Beware the Maxcare "Loyaty fee" for anyone who is considering a vehicle purchase there. If you are unlucky enough for the item not to be covered by the Maxcare plan, you will be shaken down too.

Carmax blogger spy, Chris Wilmore, was unable to assist you in this?

It really sucks for them, because for as long as I have know you, you have always said good things about Carmax. Now that you're on their radar, they'll see this, too!

Well, HE was able to help me get to the "next level".. apparently the "next level" people were uninterested in helping me.

This is really shitty. I am sorry for you. Would it help if we all posted with the word "Carmax" and had the link go back to your post? It sounds like it it will get the links and info and maybe if they see enough trouble, they will do something to keep you/us quiet.

Let me know if you want to make a bigger issue of it.

I'm not defending Carmax in any way. But one of the reasons that the diagnostic is so expensive is because the car manufacturers lease the machines for outrageous prices.

But it is pretty shitty that you have to pay the fee just to find out if it's covered. That's why warrantees should be comprehensive.

According to dad, even the Big 3 remove the diagnostic charge upon completion of the repair. I have never heard of having to pay the fee if you have them do the work.

I think it's actually more detrimental to Carmax that they contacted you at all and still didn't resolve the situation to your satisfaction. Carmax Carmax Carmax. I hope they see this. In the future, if you're going to all the trouble of stalking a customer so that you can fix their problems, actually FIX THEM.
