Redneck Repair Service

On Friday (Yes, all the things in my apartment break on Friday) I noticed that the ceiling in the bathroom was wet. The problem got progressively worse over the weekend, but the Apartment Manager ignores all requests for aid on the weekedn so it wasn't until Monday that I could get anyone to hear my cries for help and Tuesday before anyone showed up to do anything about it.

By this time the water was dripping, but humrously enough the path of the drips went right into the toilet, so as long as I left the lid up (Sorry ladies) I didn't have to worry about leaking.

When the Maintenance guy finally came on Tuesday he did some "Work" upstairs to fix it. (I don't know what that work entailed and he wouldn't say). To prevent additional leaking he created this unique repair approach.. He NAILED a Garbage Bag on my ceiling to force the runoff into my shower. He then suggested that I should call the Apartment Manager in THREE WEEKS (So she wouldn't forget about me) to have the ceiling repaired (aka Painted). Yes, that is a Garbage Bag and yes, he NAILED it to the ceiling.

I know many of you will say "You should Move" and you are completely right. Except for the fact that I'm addicted to being so close to work. And if I moved, how much fun would this story be with a more resonable and responsive landlord?

Rental laws are there to protect the renter not the landlord. They are required by law to address this issue in most all states. The mold and water damage that will occur as a result of this will cause major health and structural damage. Because you want to continue living there, you should go through the process of forcing them to fix it in a professional matter. This may include getting a lawyer, but when the landlords lose the court case, they will be required to pay the legal costs as well.

Be nice, until it's time to not be nice...

Wow. Your bathroom is one confederate flag shower curtain from totally redneck. I don't think you should be too surprised, living in TN and all, but unless you want to shit in a room that looks like it won Project Hillbilly, I say complain your Yankee ass off.

You could always nail more garbage bags to the ceiling to cover the whole thing so it looks like it's that way on purpose.

While they are at it, they can paint the ceiling in your livingroom from the last "repair" job they didn't complete.

I would be surprised, but I know your landlord's history.
